WEEKEND CHALLENGE

Hey buddies....

Just in order to have something different to do, in case you have nothing at all, here you are a weekend challenge:
your aim is to describe the difference between the words OTHER  X  ANOTHER.

What do you think of that. I do believe we all have doubt about how to use them. Hope to see your answers ASAP.

See ya!

Digital Dump

What do you think happens to all the computers, motherboards, hard drives and computer other parts after they become useless? Is there a place where we can dump them? Do you know anywhere in Brazil where this trash is deposited?

MEC 3 FINAL REVIEW - RIBEIRO'S TEXT

6. “Keeping alive a tradition of medical service that reaches back to America’s origin, Dr. Roger Pelli provides medical care for Ashley, Maine, and five nearby communities on his own. These communities have a population of 2,600 [ guests  /  owners  /  callers  /  residents ] and cover an area of 1,600 square miles. The work is so [ difficult  /  defective  /  useless  /  offensive ] and the pay so low that, for many years, [ an  /  some  /  the  /  such ] area was unable to attract a physician.
In 1982, Pelli wanted to [ attend  /  assist  /  guide  /  experience ] medical school but could not [ continue  /  afford  /  help  /  serve ] it; he told these communities that, if they paid [ their  /  one’s  /  your  /  his ] way through school  he would sign a contract to come back and work [ for  /  with  /  as  / like ] their doctor for at least eight years. Fresh from the University of New England, Pelli [ returns  /  returned  /  will return  /  had returned ] and applied himself to his work with great dedication. Although Pelli is [ on  /  by  /  to  /  from ] call twenty-four hours a day and earns only $68,000 a year ( [ what  /  how  /  which  /  who ]  is low pay for a doctor), he plans to stay on when his contract expires. In the best tradition of his profession, he says, ´I couldn’t be more needed anywhere´. “

MEC 3 FINAL REVIEW - MARIA HELENA'S TEXT

5. “People have been interested in exploring space ever since they first looked up into the sky and saw the stars. Today we are quite used to the idea of space travel. During the second half of this century, man [ has  /  must have  / could have  /  was ] orbited the earth, walked on the moon, and sent space vehicles to [ list  /  photograph / picture  /  note ] other planets. The successful flight of the first space shuttle, the Columbia, was an especially important [ explosion  /  development  /  accident  /  news ] in the history of the space travel. First [ thrown  /  started  /  launched  /  fired ] in 1981, the Columbia traveled into space and returned to earth where it was used [ over  /  for  /  with  /  by ] other trips into space. All earlier space-going vehicles had [ either  /  once  /  whether  /  rather ] been left in space or had burned up [ then  /  till  /  yet  /  when ] reentering the earth’s atmosphere.
The construction of other shuttles has [ greatly  /  mostly  /  mainly  /  constantly ] reduced the cost of space travel and research. In the future, the shuttles [ may  /  have to  /  should  /  would ] carry materials to establish space stations and factories and, perhaps, even colonies.
[ Any  /  A  /  The  /  That ] space shuttle has opened a new era in space travel, and the hope that space exploration will answer many questions about the universe is closer to becoming a reality.”

MEC 3 FINAL REVIEW - LEOPOLDO'S TEXT

4. “Being interviewed for a job is a stress-producing situation, so it is normal to feel nervous. There are plenty of jobs [ where  /  when  /  what  /  while ] a little nervousness is not looked at distrustfully. It does [ serve  /  help  /  comfort  /  improve ] to dry a moist forehead or a sweaty hand [ nearly  /  almost  /  even  /  just ]  before meeting the interviewer, but otherwise do not be [ closely  /  quite  /  too  /  such ] concerned about the visible manifestations of [ their  /  your  /  his  /  her ] nervousness. Experienced interviewers will discount most physical [ signs  /  cues  /  illnesses  /  defects ] of nervousness. The only one that they have a hard time [ eliminating  /  listening to  /  ignoring  /  disapproving ] is an unquiet hand. People who [ really  /  constantly  /  conveniently  /  blindly ] twist their hands or make movements that are dramatically agitated are calling attention [ on  /  towards  /  into  /  to ] their nervousness.
Remember that interviewers [ talk  /  have talked  /  would talk  /  talked ] to people in order to hire them, not because they enjoy embarrassing uneasy job applicants. One way to overcome a flustered feeling, or ´butterflies in the stomach´, is to remember that interviewers want to hire people who have something to offer the company. If they think that you will fit into their organization, you will be the one who gets the job.”

MEC3 FINAL REVIEW - FLÁVIO'S TEXT

3. “When the happy parents saw their baby girl for the first time, they had a surprising reaction: ´Whoa, who does she look like?´ The woman and her husband [ agreed  /  demanded  /  recommended  /  doubted ] that their child looked lied Dr. Cecil Jacobson, the infertility specialist they had consulted. Many [ additional  /  former  /  further  /  other ] people discovered that their children looked like Jacobson [ especially  /  as well  /  eventually  /  for instance ]. Last week in Alexandria, Virginia, a federal jury found that Jacobson [ had  /  has  /  should have  /  would have ] artificially inseminated more than a dozen [ babies  /  bums  /  patients  /  hypochondriacs ] with his own sperm, claiming that [ she  /  it  /  he  /  one ] had come from anonymous donors. DNA tests linked Jacobson to [ below  /  less  /  at least  /  as to ] fifteen children, although he may have fathered as [ long  /  many  /  soon  /  much] as seventy-five. Through hormone treatment that simulates the [ results  /  effects  /  increase  /  performance ] of pregnancy, Jacobson also fooled women into believing they were pregnant [ when  /  where  /  which  /  what ] they were not. And he billed them for the supposed conceptions.
´I’ve spent my life trying to help women have children´, said Jacobson. ´It’s a shock to be found guilty of trying to help people.´ The doctor may face up to 280 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.”
