MEC 3 FINAL REVIEW - LUCAS´S TEXT

2.Some people have said that, if we all became vegetarians, we could have a positive impact on our environment. We could save vast quantities of water and fuel now used to grow feed for cows, chickens and pigs. We could stop polluting our river and streams [ in  / from  /  by  /  for ] – eliminating the use of fertilizer and pesticides used on those crops. The [ millions  /  many  /  several  /  much ] of acres of land now used for raising [ corn  /  standards  /  children  /  cattle ] could be used for growing trees. But would we [ mainly  /  fairly  /  equally  /  really ] be protecting the environment by not eating meat? We would still need acres of land [ plant  /  planted  /  are planting  /  to plant ] greens for us to eat and machines to [ peel  /  reduce  /  grow  /  harvest ] the crops, as well as water, fertilizer, and pesticides. And as for [ converting  /  convert  /  to convert  /  converted ] pastures into forests, it has been pointed out that [ all  /  these  /  any  /  few ] soils are poor and can support only grass, not trees.
If we really [ think  /  agree  /  want  /  begin ] to do something about protecting the environment, then, [ though  /  otherwise  /  perhaps  /  therefore ] we should consider moderating our use of resources without switching to an all-plant diet. Someone who eats only lettuce but drives a big car does more environmental damage than a meat-eater who lives on a more modest scale.”
